Cover of Build a Life That Doesn't Eat You Alive by Pierce Kastleton

What this tool does

The Small Rebellion chooses one rule that no longer serves your life and replaces it with one small action. It is not arson. It is evidence.

Do one quiet action that proves the rule is not law.

Bad-week version

Use it when

  • An inherited rule keeps running your week.
  • Approval is costing more than it gives.
  • You need to act on a value without giving a speech.

How to use it

  1. Write the rule you are done obeying.
  2. Name what the rule has cost.
  3. Choose one small action that proves a different rule.
  4. Repeat the action for seven days.
  5. Notice what changed and what panic lied about.

Worksheet version

Copy these prompts into a notebook, notes app, spreadsheet, or the nearest envelope that is already judging you.

Common traps

  • Announcing the rebellion for applause.
  • Choosing a rebellion too large to repeat.
  • Mistaking discomfort for danger.
